This flexible and efficient probe allows you to monitor environments without a dedicated Windows device, supporting platforms like Linux, ARM and Rasberry Pi.
Probes allow you to monitor different subnetworks that are separated from your PRTG core server by a firewall, or as a way to distribute monitoring load for improved performance and efficiency.
Unlike the "classic remote probe", which runs on Windows, the "multi-platform probe" runs on multiple platforms including Linux, ARM and Raspberry Pi.
The multi-platform probe scans the network and sends monitoring results to the PRTG core server via a NATS server.
The multi-platform probe consists of three different components:
1. NATS server
The NATS server handles the exchange of data between multi-platform probes and a PRTG core server. Paessler GmbH provides the NATS Server for Paessler PRTG Windows installer, which you can download directly from PRTG, or from the installation pack.
2. Probe adapter
The probe adapter enables the connection between a PRTG core server and a NATS server. Configure this connection in the PRTG web interface.
3. Multi-platform probe
The multi-platform probe is a small piece of software that is installed on a non-Windows system in your local or remote network. It scans the network and sends monitoring results to a PRTG core server via a NATS server.
The multi-platform probe supports Debian, Ubuntu, Redhat and ARM platforms, including Raspberry Pi giving you access to every corner of your IT estate.
Balancing load from the PRTG core increases operational performance to ensure you're monitoring your IT environment as efficiently as possible.
